The NBA trade deadline has passed, and the Phoenix Suns have made some impressive moves to strengthen their roster for a deep playoff run. However, there are still opportunities in the buyout market that the Suns can explore to further bolster their team. In this article, we will discuss two buyout candidates that the Suns should pursue: Danilo Gallinari and Marcus Morris.

Suns Should Pursue Danilo Gallinari on the Buyout Market

The top priority for the Suns in the buyout market should be Danilo Gallinari. The 16-year veteran was recently traded from the Washington Wizards to the Detroit Pistons, and he promptly agreed to a contract buyout after just six games. Gallinari is arguably the most talented player available on the buyout market.

This season, Gallinari made a successful return from an ACL injury and was coming off the bench for the Wizards. In the six games he played for the Pistons, he showcased his skills by averaging 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. His shooting percentages were also impressive, with 54.5 percent from the field, 58.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Suns could greatly benefit from additional depth at the power forward position. Gallinari's role would primarily be to knock down open three-pointers consistently. As a proven veteran, Gallinari would be attracted to the Suns' potential to make a strong push in the playoffs.

Suns Should Look to Sign Marcus Morris if Gallinari Doesn't Pan Out

If the Suns are unable to secure Gallinari, they should turn their attention to Marcus Morris Sr. Morris, a 13-year veteran, was playing a significant role off the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers this season before being traded to the San Antonio Spurs.

While Morris is not expected to play for the Spurs and is projected to be waived, he still presents a viable option for the Suns. Despite lower offensive numbers compared to previous years, Morris maintained an impressive 40 percent shooting from beyond the arc in 37 games, including seven starts, with the Sixers.

Similar to Gallinari, the Suns would rely on Morris to provide consistent threat from three-point range. His ability to space the floor would also allow him to play as a small ball center if needed.

The Suns entered this season with high expectations, with their new Big 3 of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. Despite some early setbacks due to injuries and inconsistency, the team has managed to turn things around with improved health. By adding either Gallinari or Morris to their roster, the Suns would gain quality depth and be better prepared for the postseason.
