Introduction

Are you tired of compromising between lightweight shoes and maximum cushioning? Look no further than the HOKA ONE ONE Clifton 7. In this performance review, we delve into the features and improvements of this iconic shoe, ensuring your running experience is nothing short of exceptional.

What You Need To Know

  • Weighs 8.7 oz. (247 g) for a US M9.0
  • Largely unchanged from the Clifton 6 (same midsole/outsole)
  • Minor updates to the engineered mesh upper
  • Still a great shoe with a perfect balance of light weight and max cushion

Like any shoe with a rich history, the HOKA ONE ONE Clifton has seen its fair share of ups and downs. However, with the Clifton 7, HOKA has once again struck the perfect balance between comfort and performance. Let's take a closer look at what this shoe has to offer.

The Good

MEAGHAN: The Clifton 7 has taken the best qualities of its predecessor, the Clifton 6, and added a touch of flair. One notable update is the tapered heel collar, providing a snug fit around the Achilles tendon. Additionally, HOKA has reinforced the tongue with a mesh gusset, preventing it from moving during your runs. The overall streamlined design of the upper, with its soft and breathable mesh, adds to the shoe's appeal.

THOMAS: As a long-time fan of the Clifton line, I can confidently say that the Clifton 7 lives up to its reputation. With its plush cushioning, including 29 mm of stack in the heel and 24 mm in the forefoot, this shoe offers fantastic protection and soft landings. The meta-rocker design keeps the shoe responsive, even when picking up the pace. And despite its generous cushioning, the Clifton 7 remains surprisingly lightweight, weighing in at just 9.4 oz. for a size 10.5.

JEREMY: As a self-proclaimed HOKA Clifton enthusiast, the Clifton 7 has won me over yet again. While the updates are minor, they contribute to the overall success of this shoe. Not only does it look good, with its appealing colorway, but it also performs exceptionally well. The engineered mesh upper provides both comfort and breathability. The removal of the heel loop pull tab in favor of a vertical pull tab adds support and ease of use. The ride, with its cushioned strike and firm yet responsive EVA midsole, is simply delightful.

The Bad

MEAGHAN: If there's one thing I miss about the Clifton 7, it's the iconic white on white colorway of the Clifton 6. While the Black Iris/Blue Haze colorway is appealing, it would be nice to see HOKA bring back the classic white option.

THOMAS: Although the Clifton 7 is an exceptional shoe, there are a few improvements that could be made. The absence of a pull tab and the slightly sloppy padding in the heel counter could be addressed in the future Clifton 8 model.

JEREMY: I have no complaints about the Clifton 7. It is a solid shoe that builds upon the success of the previous version.

HOKA ONE ONE Clifton 7 Conclusion

MEAGHAN: The Clifton 7 stays true to its roots, providing a familiar experience for Clifton fans. However, I must admit that the slightly firmer cushioning and lighter build of the HOKA Rincon has caught my attention. Regardless, both models offer exceptional performance and are worth considering.

THOMAS: As a devoted fan of the Clifton line, I can confidently say that the Clifton 7 is a top-tier shoe. Its versatility makes it suitable for runners of all abilities. While there are comparable options on the market, such as the Saucony Endorphin Shift and the ASICS Glideride, the Clifton 7 stands out with its lightweight build and exceptional cushioning.

JEREMY: HOKA has once again struck gold with the Clifton 7. Minor updates have improved an already excellent shoe, making it an ideal choice for easy days and long runs. Pair it with HOKA's faster models, such as the Rincon 2 or the Carbon X, for your workout and race days. With a price tag of $130, the Clifton 7 is a worthwhile investment.
