When it comes to Louis Vuitton, the Nano Speedy is undoubtedly one of the most elusive and sought-after bags in recent years. Despite its small size, this bag packs a powerful punch. With its classic monogram design and raw vachetta leather, it exudes timeless elegance.

As an owner of this bag for over a year and a half, I must admit that I haven't given it the wear it truly deserves. I was initially drawn to the Nano Speedy due to the hype surrounding it and my fear of missing out. However, the high maintenance nature of the vachetta leather made me hesitate to use it as often as I would have liked. I found myself constantly babying it, which took away from the joy of using it.

It's important to note that the information in this post pertains specifically to the original Nano Speedy. Louis Vuitton has since discontinued this model and introduced a modified version with a removable strap. While I believe the new bag may be slightly smaller, a direct comparison is needed for confirmation.

Taking a Closer Look

The Nano Speedy is available in one style - the classic monogram canvas with vachetta leather trim, top handles, and a strap. The monogram canvas is made from a single piece of material, with one half of the bag sporting an upside-down pattern. The non-adjustable strap matches the trim, which features piping on both sides and small tabs where the strap is fitted. The bag also includes two small top handles and gold hardware. Inside, you'll find one open space without any pockets, lined with a neutral microfiber fabric.

Despite its small size, the Nano Speedy can surprise you with its capacity. I've had no issues fitting my larger iPhone inside, although it does require some maneuvering. If you prefer carrying just the essentials, this bag is ideal. As a petite individual at 5'2", I find the crossbody length perfect, as I like my bags to sit slightly lower on my hip.

Durability & Versatility

Given its petite size, the Nano Speedy does have limitations in terms of versatility. It can accommodate the essentials but not much more, which can make accessing items a bit cumbersome when the bag is full. Additionally, if you often wear logos or patterned clothing, pairing them with the monogram canvas may create a clash. Personally, I find that the monogram print complements plain and neutral outfits, making it a stylish choice for me. Ultimately, how you style the bag depends on your personal fashion preferences.

The top handles of the Nano Speedy are quite small, making it more suitable for handheld carrying rather than wearing on the wrist or crook of the arm. The non-adjustable strap also limits its versatility, as the length may not be ideal for everyone.

In terms of durability, the canvas of the bag is sturdy and wears well. However, the raw vachetta leather presents a love-hate relationship. When new, the leather is delicate and prone to marking easily. This vulnerability vanishes as a protective patina develops with time. To prevent watermarks and stains, protective sprays can be used. Placing the bag on a windowsill allows the sun to gently patina the leather, creating an even-toned appearance. While it remains raw leather, this method offers extra resistance compared to newly acquired vachetta.

Is It Worth It?

Ultimately, the worth of the Nano Speedy depends on your lifestyle and your comfort level with vachetta leather. For me, it hasn't been a great purchase due to my concerns about the leather's maintenance. Looking back, I realize I should have taken more time to consider my decision. Undeniably, it is a stunning bag, and the Speedy line has long-standing popularity worldwide. Louis Vuitton has even released limited-edition collections of the Nano Speedy. There is also the Speedy 20, which is slightly larger and, in my opinion, more practical. Unlike the Nano, it features an adjustable and removable strap.

When I purchased the Nano Speedy, it was priced at £755, which I deemed reasonable. However, the price has since increased, and the bag has been discontinued. The new model with a removable strap now retails for £1220, significantly more for virtually the same bag. From my personal standpoint, it hasn't been worth it as I simply haven't used it enough. However, this doesn't mean that it won't be worth it to someone else. Ultimately, an item's value is subjective and depends on how much joy it brings to the individual. If the Nano Speedy is the bag you've set your heart on and it will truly make you happy, then go ahead and indulge. After all, buying what you love is a decision I wholeheartedly support.
