Tale as Old as Time Afternoon Tea at The Kensington Hotel

Binny from Binny's Travel Diaries was lucky enough to 'be a guest' at The Kensington Hotel, for the very popular Beauty and The Beast Afternoon Tea.

One of my favorite Disney animations, Beauty and the Beast, was recently brought to life in a live-action film. As a fan of the original, I was filled with nostalgic joy while watching it. So, when I heard about The Kensington Hotel in West London collaborating with Disney for an exclusive themed afternoon tea called "Tale as Old as Time," I was disappointed to learn that it had sold out quickly. However, a few months later, I was pleasantly surprised with a reservation and got to experience this luxurious afternoon tea firsthand.

A Magical Setting

As I entered the gorgeous library room, I couldn't help but smile at the Beauty and the Beast memorabilia scattered around, including Lumiere and Cogsworth figurines. The atmosphere was enchanting, with little girls dressed as Belle, excitedly enjoying afternoon tea with their families. It was a wonderfully relaxed and adorable ambiance.

A French Twist on Afternoon Tea

The afternoon tea at The Kensington Hotel takes inspiration from the iconic "Be Our Guest" scene from the story, adding a French twist to the classic tradition. The menu is carefully crafted to transport guests into the magical world of Beauty and the Beast.

Delightful Starters

The experience began with a plate of savory starters, including a delicious Venison Pie, a flavorful Cheese Souffle, and a mouthwatering Beef Ragu & Saffron Arancini with Lemon Creme Fraiche. This unique twist on the customary afternoon tea gave a delightful start to the indulgence.

Sandwiches Fit for Royalty

Next, a three-tiered stand arrived, showcasing a selection of traditional sandwiches on one tier and an array of fabulous desserts on the other. The sandwich menu included Potted Argyle Smoked Salmon & Creme Fraiche, Roast Devon Red Chicken with Cranberry, Cucumber & Cream Cheese, and Egg Mayonnaise & Cress.

A Sweet Finale

On the bottom tier, a nod to Belle's baking skills, instead of the traditional scones, were French brioche baguettes served with Apricot preserve and chocolate. The dessert tier was a visual delight, featuring a Vanilla and Gold Jelly, a chocolate Tart in the shape of Cogsworth, a White Chocolate Mousse topped with 'Grey Stuff' (which was cake frosting) inside a Chip teacup, and a Spiced Snowball Macaroon with Coconut and Chocolate.

An Enchanting Experience

The attention to detail was remarkable. The crockery, including a teacup resembling Chip with an actual chip, and a rose in a bell jar, perfectly captured the essence of Beauty and the Beast. These little touches made the experience truly special.

A Minor Request

While the French brioche baguettes were delicious, I personally missed the traditional scones, as they are my favorite part of an afternoon tea. However, I understand and appreciate the adherence to the theme. If you enjoy brioche, you will definitely appreciate this aspect of the menu.

A Sweet Surprise

The treats did not end with the tiered stand. To conclude the experience, we were each presented with a Belle's dress Speculoos cookie. This delightful cookie was absolutely divine and provided a perfect ending to the afternoon tea. We savored it later at home, reminiscing about the magical experience.

The Perfect Blend of Magic and Indulgence

In conclusion, the Beauty and the Beast themed afternoon tea at The Kensington Hotel was a truly wonderful experience. It brought together two of my favorite things - my favorite Disney movie and the joy of indulging in a luxurious afternoon tea. If you ever have the opportunity to attend a similar event, I highly recommend it. Unfortunately, the Tale as Old as Time Afternoon Tea is no longer available at The Kensington Hotel.
