Tarte Cosmetics, a New York-based company, has gained popularity for its "high-performance naturals" that are vegan and of exceptional quality. As someone with sensitive eyes, I am always on the lookout for eye makeup products that won't cause irritation. Tarte's Tarteist Lash Paint mascara has been my go-to, but now the Tarte Maneater Mascara has caught my attention.

Tarte Maneater Mascara: A Game-Changer

This mascara does more than just volumize. It promises to open up the eyes and make them appear bigger and lifted. The secret lies in its brush, which boasts over 500 bristles for perfect lash separation. Additionally, the conditioning formula ensures clump-free lashes.

Why I Love Tarte Mascaras

I have always struggled with finding mascaras that don't irritate my eyes. Tarte maneater voluminous mascara has been a game-changer for me. It keeps my eyes comfortable all day, without any itchiness or redness. The fact that it is ophthalmologist and dermatologist-tested, as claimed by the website, adds to its credibility.

While the Maneater Mascara is impressive, the Tarteist Lash Paint mascara still holds a special place in my heart. The Lash Paint offers better curling ability and provides ample length and volume. However, I did not have a pleasant experience with the Surfer Curl mascara, as it tends to clump and gives a more natural look.

Lash-Friendly Ingredients

Tarte's dedication to creating exceptional mascaras lies in their use of lash-friendly ingredients. Let's take a look at some of the notable ingredients found in the Maneater Mascara:

Carnauba Wax

Derived from the leaves of the carnauba palm Copernicia Prunifera in Brazil, carnauba wax is known for its waterproof and volumizing properties. It allows for a smooth application and ensures impressive results, longevity, and clump-free lashes.

Jojoba Oil

Although it's called oil, jojoba oil is actually more like wax. It is extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant and is widely used in skincare and hair care products. Jojoba oil not only hydrates but also strengthens and protects lashes.

Application Tips

To achieve the best results with this mascara, I recommend starting with curled lashes using a curling wand. Then, start by applying the mascara to the center of the eye and move the brush in an upward motion, working from the bottom to the top. For optimal coverage, use a zig-zag motion. Apply additional coats for a more dramatic look. I personally found that two coats delivered satisfying results, but three coats provided an intense effect.

My Experience with Tarte Maneater Mascara

The mascara delivered noticeable results with each coat. The first coat provided a subtle effect, while the second coat intensified the length and volume. The third coat truly made my lashes stand out, especially in terms of volume. However, I was slightly disappointed with the curling aspect.

The standout feature of this mascara is undoubtedly the brush. The hundreds of bristles effortlessly separate the lashes, leaving behind a clump-free finish. Although the large brush wasn't an issue for my upper lashes, it didn't work as effectively on my lower lashes.

For the purposes of this review, I applied light eyeshadow and eyeliner alongside the mascara to showcase its dramatic length and volume. As you can see, the mascara did an excellent job of separating and coating my lashes, giving them a natural and voluminous look.

However, capturing the lack of curl in photographs proved challenging. Another minor drawback is the color. While it is black, it lacks the intense black shade that I prefer for a more dramatic look. Nonetheless, I still highly recommend this mascara for its separation and clump-free finish.

The Price Tag

At $23 USD, the price of this mascara may be a concern for some. Personally, I don't mind paying a little extra for a high-quality product. Compared to other brands like Dior, this mascara is quite affordable.

Consider These Alternatives

If you're in search of alternative mascaras, here are a few options worth exploring:

Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara

This mascara truly lives up to the hype. It provides the perfect combination of curl, length, and volume. The brush, similar to the Maneater Mascara, separates lashes flawlessly without clumping or flaking. However, it may smudge slightly. Unfortunately, it is currently out of stock on both the Sephora and Ulta beauty websites.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes

For those who prefer a more natural look but still crave volume, the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara is a great option. It offers a decent amount of volume with a natural finish. However, it tends to clump more than other Tarte mascaras. If smudging is a concern, they also offer a waterproof version.

Thrive Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara

Although I haven't personally tried this mascara, it comes highly recommended by friends and customers. The Thrive Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara volumizes, defines, lengthens, and curls the lashes. It contains plant stem cell technology to promote lash health. Moreover, Thrive Causemetics is a vegan and cruelty-free brand that donates to women in need with every purchase.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Volumizing Mascara

Anastasia Beverly Hills is renowned for its eyebrow products, and their Lash Brag Volumizing Mascara is no exception. This mascara provides serious volume, requiring minimal coats. Some users have reported smudging, so keep that in mind when considering this option.

Maybelline Volum’ Express the Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara

For a budget-friendly option, the Maybelline Volum’ Express the Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara is impressive. It offers impressive volume, curl, and length. The color is intense black, and it is easily removable if you choose the washable version. However, it may clump and flake, so caution is advised. Some users experienced slight eye irritation, although not as severe as with other mascaras.

The Final Verdict

With its impressive volumizing and lengthening properties, the Maneater Mascara from Tarte has earned my recommendation. It is long-lasting, clump-free, and doesn't smudge or flake. However, if you prioritize curl, you may want to explore alternatives like the Thrive Causemetics mascara or the Maybelline Volum’ Express Colossal Lash mascara.
