Blush is a makeup item that evokes strong opinions, but the new EM Cosmetics So Soft Blush might just win everyone over. We all know the struggle of finding a blush that can build pigment, yet is easy to apply and control. And let's not forget about the importance of flattering shade options for BIPOC skin tones and a lightweight, long-wearing formula. EM Cosmetics has taken all these factors into account with their new So Soft Blush.

Blush has become incredibly popular in recent times, with searches for it skyrocketing in the beauty industry. With so many options available, it's hard to find a blush that truly stands out. However, the So Soft Blush from EM Cosmetics caught my attention from the very beginning.

Described as a "soft, blendable crème blush stick ranging from soft neutrals to rich vibrant hues," the So Soft Blush offers a luxurious texture infused with squalane and vitamin E. It promises to create a satin, skin-like finish that seamlessly applies to the cheeks. But does it live up to these claims? Let's find out.

How is So Soft Blush different from other blushes from EM Cosmetics?

EM Cosmetics is no stranger to blushes, having previously launched the Color Drops Serum Blush and the Heaven's Glow Radiant Veil Blush. The So Soft Blush combines the best features from both of its predecessors.

While the Color Drops Serum Blush provides a radiant finish and sheer shades, the So Soft Blush takes a different approach. With its soft-matte, satin finish, it more closely resembles the powder formula of the Heaven's Glow Radiant Veil Blush. This is great news for those with acne-prone skin who prefer to steer clear of shimmer.

The So Soft Blush comes in six shades, each with a charming name. From the pale pink of "Baby" to the rich berry of "Bitten," there's a shade for every skin tone. To put it to the test, I tried the deeper shades of Pearl Tea, Venetian Rose, Passion, and Bitten.

Pearl Tea

When I first swatched Pearl Tea, I was worried that it might not show up on my skin due to its brownish neutral shade. However, after applying and blending it out, the blush appeared beautifully. It's easy to control and buildable, reminiscent of my favorite powder blush, Patrick Ta's Monochrome Moment blush in She's Seductive.

Venetian Rose

Venetian Rose is a true classic pink that suits a range of complexions. Compared to other Venetian Rose blushes from EM Cosmetics, this shade is more pigmented and vivid. However, it's still easy to blend and control with fingers or a brush.

Passion

The orangey blushes from EM Cosmetics usually apply sheer, so I expected the same from Passion. However, to my surprise, this shade packed a punch of pigment. I used a brush to blend out its powerful color, and the result was a warm, sun-kissed lift that is perfect for deeper complexions.

Bitten

Similar to Passion, Bitten is a highly pigmented shade that requires caution during application. However, it blends out smoothly and effortlessly, leaving behind a vintage berry elegance that will inspire you to listen to classical music playlists.

The final verdict

Although I had different experiences with each shade, they all provided an airbrushed finish. The So Soft Blush is self-setting, eliminating the need for a powder, yet it doesn't appear overly matte. It truly feels and looks like a second skin. I wore the classic Venetian Rose throughout a hot and humid summer day, and it didn't budge or fade. It even remained flattering on camera during all my meetings.

In conclusion, the So Soft Blush from EM Cosmetics exceeds all the standards I have for a blush. It effortlessly builds pigment, is easy to apply and control, offers inclusive shade options, and is lightweight and long-wearing. This is the ultimate blush that ticks all the boxes.
