Choose Your Turtleneck Scarf Size

Before we dive into the tutorial, let's determine the size of your turtleneck scarf. Using a tape measure, measure your forehead circumference just above the eyebrows. If your forehead circumference measures 20-1/2" to 21-1/2", you'll make a size Small/Medium turtleneck scarf. For measurements between 21-1/2" and 22-1/2", opt for a size Medium/Large. In this tutorial, we'll be making a size Small/Medium turtleneck scarf.

Prepare & Cut Fabric

Now it's time to prepare your fabric. Start by pre-treating it, steaming, and pressing to ensure a smooth finish. For added stability, use June Tailor's Quilters Starch Savvy to starch the fabric. Once your fabric is ready, cut one fabric rectangle that measures 18" long by 21" wide for a size Small/Medium turtleneck scarf. Be sure to cut the fabric rectangle with the greatest fabric stretch across the 21" width. You can adjust the size according to your preference or follow the recommended measurements for other sizes.

Fold the fabric rectangle with the right sides together, aligning the 21" long edges. Pin the fabric in place. To ensure a secure stitch, insert a new Schmetz Size 80/12 Jersey Chrome Sewing Machine Needle and set your sewing machine to a zig-zag wobble stitch or use an overlock stitch on a serger. Stitch the seam, then press it flat and either press it open or to one side. Turn the scarf right side out through the seam opening, and close the opening with a zigzag stitch or hand stitching.
