If you live in a rainy climate, you’re probably familiar with the struggle of having damp feet. That's where Vessi comes in. This shoe company has designed completely waterproof sneakers to solve this problem. But are they worth the hype? Let's find out.

What are Vessi Shoes?

Vessi makes a variety of waterproof shoes for men, women, and kids. Their original shoe, the Everyday Classic Sneaker, is what we'll be focusing on in this review. These comfortable sneakers are not only waterproof but also claim to repel sand, wind, snow, and slush. They achieve this through their proprietary knit material called Dyma-tex, which allows vapor and heat to pass through while keeping water molecules out.

A Quick Look at Vessi as a Company

Vessi was founded by three Vancouverites who understand the need for waterproof shoes in a rainy city. They launched the company through successful Kickstarter campaigns, raising over two million dollars. Apart from making great shoes, Vessi is committed to sustainable practices by using vegan materials, plastic-free packaging, and partnering with eco-friendly factories.

Vessi Shoes Review: My Experience With the Women's Everyday Classic Shoes

I tried out the all-white version of the Vessi Everyday Sneakers. Although they don't come in half sizes, the size 8 fit me well due to their stretchy nature. Stylistically, these sneakers weren't my usual choice, but I thought they would be great for travel.

In person, they didn't look as attractive to me as they did on the website. The wide flare of the outer sole and the stretchy upper gave them a sporty look that didn't suit my style. However, they matched well with some outfits featuring long pants.

I decided to test their waterproof capability during a sea-kayaking trip. The shoes kept my feet dry as long as the water didn't go over the top, but once they got wet, they took a long time to dry. They also made my feet sweat, which was uncomfortable. Overall, I found them comfortable for short walks, but not for longer distances.

Pros and Cons of Vessi Shoes

  • Waterproof: As long as you don't fully submerge them, Vessi sneakers will keep your feet dry in wet climates.
  • Comfortable: They provide support and cushioning for long walks and light hiking.
  • Durable and high-quality: These shoes are sturdy and well-made, expected to last a long time.
  • Lightweight: Despite their substantial build, Vessi shoes are lightweight and suitable for travel.

  • Not quick-drying: Once wet, Vessi shoes take a significant amount of time to dry.
  • Not very breathable: They can make your feet sweat and retain moisture, causing discomfort.
  • No half sizes: Vessi shoes don't come in half sizes, which may require some guesswork for sizing.

Other Vessi Shoes

Vessi offers a range of styles besides their Everyday Classic Sneakers. The Everyday Move shoes provide extra arch support, breathability, and more color options. They also have slip-on models like the Everyday Slip-Ons and the Sunday Slipper. For casual wear, the Weekend Sneaker and Cityscape Sneakers are popular choices. Vessi even offers waterproof shoes for kids.

Vessi Shoes Sizing Tips, Fit & How They Should Feel

Vessi shoes are true to size, but they don't come in half sizes. They are stretchy, providing some flexibility in fit. The ankle opening might feel tight initially, but it will stretch over time. If you have wide feet, consider choosing the equivalent men's size for a wider fit.

Vessi Shoes Durability

The quality of Vessi shoes is impressive. They are well-made and sturdy, with a design that ensures longevity. The waterproof claim holds true as long as the shoes are not fully submerged.

Conclusion: Are Vessi Waterproof Shoes Worth It?

In terms of keeping your feet dry, Vessi shoes deliver. They are great for rainy climates and light outdoor activities. However, they fall short in terms of breathability and quick-drying. Additionally, the style might not appeal to everyone. If you're in search of a waterproof shoe, alternatives like Allbirds' Mizzles might be a better choice. Nevertheless, if you decide to go for a pair of Vessis, try to catch them on sale, as the price point is a bit high for what they offer.
