The feedback received during this phase will help shape the future of the Surrey Hills AONB. Whether you are a local resident or an admirer from afar, your thoughts and opinions matter. Take the time to examine the proposals and express your views on the consultation hub.

Benefits for All

If the proposed extensions are approved, they promise a wealth of benefits for both the environment and the local community. By conserving and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the area, we can ensure its longevity and protect the stunning views that make it so special. Additionally, improved access to nature will contribute to the health and well-being of people, while boosting the economy and tourism in the region. All of this, just a stone's throw away from London.

Your opinions and insights are crucial in shaping the future of the Surrey Hills AONB. Make sure your voice is heard before the consultation closes on June 13, 2023.

A Landmark Decision

After the consultation period ends, Natural England will carefully assess the feedback received and make any necessary amendments. The Natural England board will then consider whether to approve a draft designation order that includes the proposed extensions. This decision will be made based on the required assessments and the results of the statutory and public consultation.

Once the designation order is passed to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, a further opportunity for public comment will be provided during a statutory notice period. The final decision on whether to extend the Surrey Hills AONB will be made by Natural England's board, taking into account all the assessments and feedback received during the consultation process.

A Land of Promise

The Surrey Hills AONB extension proposal is just one of four projects under consideration by Natural England. The others include an extension to the Chilterns AONB, the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge AONB, and the Yorkshire Wolds AONB. These projects demonstrate the government's commitment to preserving and celebrating England's exceptional landscapes.
