Everyone follows trends, and if someone tells you they don't, well then they might as well be naked. Over the past decade, we've seen a myriad of men's fashion trends come and go. Some are still going strong, while others are on their way out. In this article, I'd like to run down my list of the 20 best and worst men's style and fashion trends from the past 10 years. So, let's dive right in, starting with the worst.

1. Overly Distressed Denim

Distressed denim can be cool, but what's not cool is when it looks like a hurricane ripped through your jeans. The overly distressed denim trend took the fashion world by storm in the 2010s, but thankfully, it's on its way out. Tastefully distressed styling will take hold as we welcome the new decade.

2. Crossover Fanny Pack

They call them Crossbody bags, but let's face it, they're fanny packs, and the fanny pack has never been cool — ever. Despite what the mainstream menswear publications say, a fanny pack is a fanny pack. This is one trend that we hope is buried in the next decade.

3. Bucket Hats

The bucket hat has been on a tear in 2019, but it's not a very flattering style in my opinion. While it may help give you sun protection, it just doesn't look cool no matter how much GQ or Esquire says so.

4. Chunky Sneakers

Chunky sneakers, also known as the Balenciaga Triple S sneaker, are the ugliest of the uglies when it comes to sneakers. Another trend in this category is the sock sneaker. Thankfully, streetwear is over in 2020, according to Hypebeast king Virgil Abloh, so we can say goodbye to these chunky and unappealing sneakers.

5. Rompers

The male romper, also known as the romphim, went viral back in 2017. While it may look flattering on women, it's not so flattering on dudes. It's childish, goofy, and does not belong in the stylish modern gent's wardrobe.

6. UGG Boots

In the 2000s, nothing said "basic white girl" more than a pair of UGG boots. Now, in 2019, it's the men's turn. While they're cozy and comfortable, they don't offer much in terms of style. If you're wearing them for comfort, go right ahead, but for style, there are better options out there.

7. Spray-on Jeans

For the ladies, yes. For dudes? Hell nah. Spray-on jeans may show off your muscles, but most women will probably find it repulsive. This trend is one that I hope dies a fiery death and never rises again from the ashes.

8. Harem Pants

Aladdin's pants of choice, harem pants, make the list of the worst fashion trends in the 2010s. They're oddly shaped and make you look like you're wearing a sagging diaper. It's simply not a good look.

9. Statement Scarf

It's not so much the statement scarf itself, but the way that people chose to wear them. Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers, for example, wore some absurd looks. It's best to avoid going overboard with statement scarves.

10. Airpods

Out of the gate, Airpods became Apple's second best-selling product of all time. While they're functional and can pair with your phone, they don't make you look any more stylish. Wearing Airpods doesn't automatically make you as cool as you think you are.

Now that we've discussed the worst fashion trends, let's move on to the best.

1. Athleisure Style

Men's athleisure style is a trend that was done right in the 2010s. It's no longer confined to the gym but has become a part of everyday wear. Brands like Nike, Adidas, and Reebok have embraced this trend, offering comfortable and stylish athletic wear for all occasions.

2. Minimalism

Minimalism is one of my favorite trends right now. People are simplifying their lifestyles and decluttering their homes, and this trend has extended to men's fashion. Minimal, basic styles are easy to wear and effortlessly stylish. A classic t-shirt, jeans, and clean white trainers will never go out of style.

3. Vintage

90s fashion made a roaring comeback in the 2010s, thanks to the streetwear crowd. Modern preppy became cool again, and even grunge style made a comeback. Embracing vintage pieces adds a touch of nostalgia to your wardrobe.

4. Leather Trainers

Clean and classic, a pair of low-top leather sneakers is the perfect shoe for casual and dressier outfits alike. Their versatility has made them a staple in stylish men's wardrobes. Brands like Greats, Koio, and Ace Marks offer their own versions of these timeless sneakers.

5. Smart Casual

Smart casual style is my go-to uniform. It's the perfect blend of dressier pieces with more casual ones. Think an unstructured blazer, dark wash denim, and leather Chelsea boots. It's a versatile and polished look for any occasion.

6. Sustainable Fashion

With fast fashion filling up our landfills, sustainability and ethical fashion became important trends in the 2010s. Brands like Everlane, PACT, and Patagonia focus on creating clothing that is good for the consumers and the environment. This trend is one that I hope continues to rise in the future.

7. Normcore

Normcore is all about embracing simplicity and blending in. While it may have a bad reputation, there's nothing wrong with simplicity. It's a great style for those who are interested in learning how to dress better. Embrace normcore and create a basic wardrobe that will never go out of style.

8. Dad Hat

The baseball cap, or dad hat, made a comeback in the past decade. It's versatile and can be worn casual or dressed up. It's a great addition to any wardrobe.

9. Turtleneck Under A Blazer

The turtleneck under a blazer trend may be on its way out, but it's a refined and classic look. It's a great way to add some sophistication to your outfit. Just be careful not to overdo it.

10. Blue Jeans

Last but not least, the trusty American classic blue jeans. They're versatile, durable, and always in style. Blue jeans will continue to be a staple in casual men's fashion.

Fashion is a cyclical beast, and what's new was once old, and vice versa. The key is to wear what you love and not pay too much attention to trends. Embrace your personal style and make it your own.
