The Quest for a Better Cleanser

For years, I used commercial cleansers with mixed results. They either didn't do much or caused irritation. It was frustrating, to say the least. But then, I discovered the hidden truth behind the long list of unpronounceable ingredients on those bottles. Turns out, they weren't great for my skin or proven to be safe for long-term use.

I stumbled upon the Environmental Working Group's website, where I learned about the toxins we encounter daily. Their research made me realize that I needed to switch to something more natural and safer. And that's when I decided to create my own tea tree facial cleanser.

Suitable for All Skin Types

One of the best things about this cleanser is that it is suitable for all skin types. Whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin, this gentle cleanser will work wonders. If you have drier skin, you can alternate it with an oil cleanser. For oily skin, it works great on its own. And if you need to remove excess dirt or makeup, this cleanser is your go-to solution.

The Power of Natural Ingredients

The secret behind this cleanser lies in its carefully selected natural ingredients:

  • Castile soap: Made with coconut oil and olive oil, this mild soap is free from animal fats and other additives.
  • Aloe Vera Gel: Known for its moisturizing and healing properties, it makes the cleanser less harsh and drying for the skin.
  • Castor oil: A powerful oil for facial cleansing, it detoxifies and cleanses the skin.
  • Vitamin E oil: Adds extra moisturizing effects and rejuvenates the skin.
  • Tea Tree essential oil: With its antimicrobial properties, it keeps the skin free from bacteria.
  • Lavender essential oil: Also known for its antimicrobial effects and ability to rejuvenate the skin.

Rest assured, this cleanser is free from harmful ingredients, synthetic additives, and preservatives. It's a natural solution you can trust.

The Importance of Preservatives

To maintain the freshness of this homemade cleanser, it's important to make it in small batches. Since there are no preservatives added, using it up within a shorter amount of time is key. However, I've never experienced any issues with mold or bacteria growth in this product. Just keep in mind that it may separate as it sits, but a simple shake before each use will ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed.

How to Make the Simple Tea Tree Facial Cleanser

Making this cleanser is a breeze. Here's what you'll need:

  • 1.5 ounces unscented, mild liquid Castile Soap
  • 1 tablespoon Aloe Vera Gel
  • 1 tablespoon Castor oil
  • 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
  • 6 drops Tea Tree essential oil
  • 4 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 1- 4 oz plastic bottle with a disc cap

Simply add all the ingredients to the plastic bottle, and shake well to blend them. Use a pea-sized amount of the cleanser daily, shaking the bottle before each use to ensure the ingredients are mixed properly.

Final Thoughts and Skincare Tips

I personally use this cleanser in the evening to wash off excess oil, dirt, and makeup. In the morning, I simply rinse my face with warm water and pat it dry. Remember, exfoliation is also essential for healthy-looking skin. I recommend using a gentle facial exfoliator daily, such as the charcoal and lavender konjac sponges by Dr. Sponge.

This tea tree facial cleanser is just one part of my three-step skincare routine. Alongside it, I use a toner made with flower hydrosols or infused witch hazel extract, as well as a facial elixir with carrier oils and essential oils. In winter, when my skin tends to be drier, I also add a vitamin C moisturizing cream or a homemade herbal-infused cream to my regime.
