Abbotshall Healthy Lifestyle Centre: A Hub for Well-being

The Abbotshall Healthy Lifestyle Centre, established in collaboration with Community Teachsport and the Council in May 2015, stands as a testament to the society's commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle. This local gem offers a wide range of activities, from football and cricket pitches to an athletics track and indoor studio. Step aerobics, Zumba, yoga, pilates - whatever your preference, you'll find it here.

Nested within the centre lies the Truly Splendid vintage tea room, where you can savor delightful soups, stews, sandwiches, salads, and an assortment of teas and cakes. It's the perfect spot to relax and recharge after a thrilling workout or a leisurely stroll through the estate. Older Community Projects: Building a Legacy

Since its inception in 2013, the Archibald Corbett Society has spearheaded numerous projects aimed at preserving Corbett's legacy and improving the Corbett Estate for its residents. These initiatives encompass a wide range of activities, including the establishment of a Neighbourhood Planning Forum, the creation of a community garden, and the development of a healthy lifestyle awareness campaign. Moreover, they have championed the preservation of local shopping parades, organized a captivating photographic competition, and even produced a film and exhibition dedicated to Archibald Corbett himself. Let's delve deeper into some of these remarkable projects.

Corbett Portraits: A Glimpse into Community Life

One of the standout projects is the 'Corbett Portraits' photographic competition, which captivated the community. From local residents and shopkeepers to street cleaners and the butcher, these photographs beautifully capture the essence of life in the Corbett Estate. The inaugural awards ceremony held at Torridon Road Library in Catford marked a momentous occasion, attended by over 50 individuals.

He expressed his pride in the community's fantastic photographs and their exhibition at the library. With plans to run the competition again in the future, the society aims to build a "living history" that future generations can cherish.

The Enduring Legacy

Launched in October 2013, the Archibald Corbett Society remains committed to preserving the remarkable legacy of Archibald Cameron Corbett. His vision and dedication transformed 287 acres of farmland into the Corbett Estate, a haven for over 3000 families in Hither Green and South Catford. This society, rooted in his values, ensures that Corbett's impact continues to shape the community for generations to come.

Millie On The Stairs Caption: 'Millie On The Stairs' by Sarah Baldock received the runner-up prize in the over-18 category.

Heidi Alexander, an esteemed member of Parliament, continues to play a vital role in supporting the Archibald Corbett Society. Her presence during the Corbett Portraits Competition Awards ceremony highlighted the significance of this exceptional project.
